Your microbiome is as unique to you as your DNA.
Creating B-SILK PROTEIN and formulating skincare products was just a fraction of the journey in bringing Eighteen B to life. Once the formulas are produced, then the testing begins to check for things like…
> Does it irritate the skin?
> Does it maintain the skin’s natural pH balance?
> What does it do to the skin’s microbiome? (Uh..micro-what?)
What is the Microbiome?
Did you know that our skin is covered with trillions of microorganisms known as your microbiome and is a crucial component of your skin barrier? The Microbiome, also called skin flora or microbiota, is something we all have, inside and out. Similar to the bacteria that lives in your gut, a microscope would show you that our skin has its own ecosystem of over 1000 different types of bacteria and other microorganisms living on it. They also keep the skin barrier intact, protect it from inflammation, balance the pH of the skin, among so many other things. Your microbiome is as unique to you as your DNA.
And just think, every product that you put on your skin reacts with the naturally present bacteria, so you want to find products that are not disrupting the biome so they can perform as intended.
Fun Fact
There are more microorganisms on one underarm than there are people on this planet!
Discovering Kinkō
We recently chatted with Chelsi Oestreich, Co-Founder, of Kinkō, which is a personal care brand focused on creating products that work with your skin’s biome and skin barrier for better performance. Their all-natural product, the Microbiomix™ Balancing Deodorant, uses a blend of pre-and postbiotics to nurture the good bacteria and neutralize the bad to eliminate odor. Pretty cool!
Sweating is a natural and necessary process to detox your system. Furthermore, sweat is actually odorless – it is only when it comes into contact with specific bacteria that odor is produced.
Microbiomix™ is a patent-pending blend of proven ingredients that work with your skin’s microbiome to keep the sweat odorless. It works by:
● Feeding the friendly bacteria with prebiotics to help them thrive
● Adjusting the skin pH to its physiological level with postbiotics
● Deactivating odor-causing bacteria with targeted ingredients
They also believe in clean formulas (no aluminum!) are vegan and cruelty free, just like Eighteen B! Another brand who uses Science for the Win!
What about Eighteen B?
Our products are formulated to defend and restore your skin barrier plus are microbiome-friendly. We ran a 12-week clinical trial to test the effect of the serum on your skin’s natural microbiome population. The result? No change. Which, in this case, is a good thing.
Get in touch with your skin’s microbiome and barrier and take care of them because they take care of you!
