It's important to take time for yourself!
Right now, it is safe to say that we are stressed. The silver lining is that we are all in this together and this too shall pass. The bad news is that all of this stress (and stress-eating) wreaks havoc on our skin. Read more about what stress does to our skin, here. The stress may continue for a little (or a lot) while longer, but in the meantime, here are some tips for treating stressed skin.
Breakouts
No matter your age, breakouts still happen (ugh!). When this happens, try a great spot treatment product like the Acne-Clear Invisible Dots from Peter Thomas Roth. They are small to only treat the spot (no need to treat the entire face) and contain salicylic acid to help blast the blemish fast. Blemish products tend to be drying on the skin so be sure to follow with a lightweight moisturizer, like Revitalizing Hydrogel Moisturizer, featuring B-SILK PROTEIN (silk skincare is known for its healing powers as well to minimize scarring).
Dullness
When your skin is stressed, it slows the natural cell turnover process and loses the essential nutrients it needs resulting in a dull appearance. When cleansing, gently exfoliate using a muslin cloth or cleanser with natural acids to remove the dead skin first. Then apply our Firm + Replenish Serum to add essential amino acids and lipids back into your skin which restores the skin barrier to a healthy state. When skin is healthy, it gets its natural glow back. The serum also has been proven to improve firmness so that’s an added bonus! For extra radiance, apply a Vitamin C product before the Serum – our current fave is Glow Recipe’s Pineapple C-Bright Serum.
Dryness
When your skin gets stressed, your skin barrier is compromised and reacts accordingly. The result can be intense dryness in all or parts of the face. When this happens, reach for a rich, nourishing silk moisturizer like the Hydrate + Restore Rich Cream. It contains ceramides, squalane and hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin. If you are oily, your skin could use this just at night or use both day and night for you normal to dry skin types. A DIY trick for those needing even more moisture – add a few drops of liquid Vitamin E into the cream and blend together before applying to skin.
Dark Circles
When you are stressed, you are most likely losing sleep as well which causes dark circles under the eyes. While no skincare product is a replacement for a good night’s rest, we can fake it til we make it. Our Defend + Nourish Eye Cream strengthens the thin skin around the eye area but also hydrates and reduces dark circles with the powder of Arabian Jasmine flowers that improve circulation. It also was formulated specifically to work well with concealer (try our fave Tarte Shape Tape Concealer) because let’s face it, concealer can cover a multitude of sins.
So we get stressed sometimes, maybe more so now than ever. It’s important to take time for yourself and with B-SILK PROTEIN, the power of silk skincare can restore your skin barrier and has been clinically shown to achieve firmer skin, improved texture, and leave skin nourished and soft (all things stressed skin needs!). Above all, take a deep breath and together, we will get through this.
