“Fit” not only represents fitness, but the ability to “fit” nutrition, self-care, and holistic wellness practices into the mom + wife + career equation in a realistic way.
A while back, we sponsored an event with Hey Mama, and we’re so happy we did because it’s how we met Taylor Walker Sinning – AKA Taylor Walker Fit.
Since this fortuitous event, we have partnered with Taylor to provide our community with top-notch fitness, nutrition, and wellness tips. We always enjoy our time with Taylor and always come away feeling more inspired. So much so, that we thought it would be great to give more of you the opportunity to meet Taylor via an interview we conducted for The Lab.
Who is Taylor Walker Fit?
I am a work in progress. Mom to a toddler. Barry’s Boot Camp instructor. Pre + Postnatal coach.
Having grown up in an athletic family, I tried every sport under the sun until I found dance. Through dance, I found myself, I found my voice. I have used dance throughout my career as a professional dancer, earning my K-12 Masters in Physical Education, and becoming a Phys Ed teacher and fitness model with numerous certifications in nutrition, wellness and pre + post-natal care.
As my career was taking off, I found myself being pulled in many different directions, moving cross country (several times) for my husband’s job and eventually becoming pregnant with my son CJ.
I was tired of re-establishing myself with every move and knew I needed to create a career that would give me the flexibility to be myself, a great mom, and have independence. Something I learned early on was to invest in myself so that I have the ability to support myself and be in control of my own fate. This was the inspiration for me to launch TaylowWalkerFit.com

What did you do to get Taylor Walker Fit off the ground?
Five years ago, I purchased the domain and began sharing my story. A year later, I started making an income. After having my son, I found myself in a phase of MAJOR transition. Another move, a 4-month old baby and lingering sadness that I couldn’t kick.
So here is what I did…
Two years ago, I grabbed a pen & paper and created my Tangible Happiness Plan.
I started with one KEY word that I wanted to achieve in the next year. This word was HAPPY.
The rest of the plan detailed HOW I was going to make this happen, and get around the barriers.
>> No time? I hired a babysitter to make the time.
>> No local support system? I got on the phone with her girlfriends and created her virtual support system.
It was all about figuring out the HOW to make my WHAT a reality.
My advice for anyone looking to do this too:
1. Really dial in the HOW’s
2. Set boundaries
3. Find your voice
For me, I chose fitness because it’s what makes me happy. I believe that when you’re strong, you feel empowered. There is a very strong connection between physical wellness and mental wellness for me.

What do you mean by FIT?
“Fit” not only represents fitness, but the ability to “fit” nutrition, self-care, and holistic wellness practices into the mom + wife + career equation in a realistic way.
You seem to have it all under control, how do you find balance in your life?
I am trying, but does balance really exist? Finding balance (for me anyway) is all about letting go of balance. Don’t strive for balance because it’s hard to maintain.
Live in the stream. Streams ebb and flow. Ride the wave, and live in the stream.
You will find contentedness. You may have to live in the dark for a while but you will eventually come out of it. Try to find a counterbalance (something that makes you feel good when you’re going through a rough patch). All of us go through this.
You mentioned that you were a junk food junkie at one time, we find this hard to believe.
I come from a mixed household. My mother is Italian and my father, African American.
Food in our house was delicious!
When I was working as a dancer, and teaching and working on my Masters, I was on the go 16 hours a day and eating whatever I wanted. I was not thinking of food as fuel. When I stopped dancing, I realized that my body could not keep up. I was tired all the time and my skin was breaking out. Once I started to dive into how food made me feel, I started learning so much about portioning, nutrient density and changed a lot about how I was fueling my body.
My motto was “Eat a burger, Do the situps, Live the healthy life” … I take a different approach today, but honestly, if you need a little treat every now and then as a counterbalance, it’s OK!
Can you share with us a few of your well living tips?
● Create a morning ritual that includes a daily check-in with yourself. Hormones dictate how we feel. It’s so important to know your body and understand what it needs to be your best for the day.
● Indulge when you want to (part of that counterbalance I talk about) but try to keep it to a minimum, tomorrow is another day. Don’t villainize food.
● Eat empowered. I “GET” to eat this vs. I “HAVE” to eat this. When you have the option to fill your cart with greens and whole grains, you should be so grateful for the ability to do this.
● Move your body in a way that feels good for you. Don’t force yourself to do a certain exercise just because all the cool kids are doing it.

We LOVE how you begin and end every workout with intent, do you have any mantra’s that you live by?
I actually just started doing this. With quarantine, I found myself waking up in a darker place than usual and needed to find a way to control the outcome of my day. By starting each workout with intent, I was able to find a way to learn how to “self talk” in a really positive way. For me, positive “self talk” is really important, because it trickles down to physical ability.
For me, this changes daily. I figure this out as part of my morning ritual, daily check-in with myself, and what I need for the day.
Though, there is one saying I really love. Nothing is impossible – Did you realize that “IMPOSSIBLE” Actually reads “I’M POSSIBLE”?
